Cubetractor-The Art of Pulling Cubes
Cubetractor, by Ludospark, is described as “a neo-retroesque action-strategy-puzzle hybrid”. Winner of the 2012 Independent Games Festival in China, Cubetractor embodies an amusing dialogue and snappy game play.
You should watch this game play video I made.
This game is different, and I do like it. I’d say it’s somewhere in the middle between hard and easy. Unfortunately, it failed to hold my attention and that’s the problem. I’m sure plenty of people find Cubetractor fun, I am not one of them.
The basic point behind Cubetractor is to pull cubes together to form other objects- like turrets who attack defending turrets. There’s a little skill involved in making sure your cubes meet in the correct location, but the main thrill is dodging the cannons thrown at you while you try to pull the right cube from the right direction.
Cubetractor was released this summer as a pixel art game. LudoSpark plans on re-releasing Cubetractor in all of its HD badassed-ness while also introducing new mechanics, structures, and enemies. Perhaps when that happens I can appreciate the game like it was meant to be.
If you want to try out Cubetractor, you can find it on Steam for $9.99
